Eco-Tourism in a nutshell. Written: By William

"Even I thought
I knew what Eco-Tourism was. Once I personally realized that
there is much more to Eco-Tourism than just the "tourism" I
was compelled to find a clear definition of the term.
"Eco-tourism is a term that has been widely used and
misrepresented on a global scale. Eco-tourism has become a
concept of travel that includes special places in our
environment. An example of the misrepresentation of the term
would be a hotel in the rainforest of Costa Rica that
entices travelers by mentioning Eco-tourism.
After researching Eco-Tourism I
am now presented with the opportunity to define Eco-Tourism
from our perspective. We have developed Eco-Tourism
Environmental Programs for people so that they too can
understand and have a definition of Eco-Tourism.
It is the intention of my organization to open the eyes of
mankind by focusing on the following facts and important
aspects of Environmental Protection and Awareness through
Eco-Tourism. We will now responsibly execute the following
principles through our Eco-Program in accordance with our
definition of Eco-Tourism.
Our Eco-Programs will aim to minimize the adverse effects of
traditional tourism on the natural environment and enhance
the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in
addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors,
our initiatives will promote recycling, energy efficiency,
and water re-use. The creation of economic
opportunities for local communities is also an integral part
of our Eco-Programs delivered through Eco-Tourism. We will
instill basic principles that can be applied to the
protection of Mother Earth.
We want to present every person who lives on the earth with
the opportunity to understand the importance of our
environment and what each person can do on a daily basis to
appreciate and preserve our precious planet. I have
concluded that as long as the effort is in place then the
conscious within our souls can easily become environmentally
aware and start compassionately improving the path we are
headed on.
In order to achieve the above task we will use tourism in
the realm of ecological and environmental awareness.
The process is going to be simple in that we
focus on educating the environmental conscious of mankind,
the inhabitants of Earth.
The goal is to promote a
greater awareness of their environment.
The launching of our Eco-Programs helped me define and
answer the questions I had. With that in mind please know
that we at the Spanish Virgin Islands are putting the
ecology into tourism instead of putting the tourism in
ecology.

comprehensive environmental information. We are currently
